SpaceX has recently accomplished a historic achievement by successfully completing an unprecedented landing maneuver with the Starship rocket, the largest and most powerful ever built. During the test, the rocket took off from Boca Chica base in Texas, and after about two and a half minutes, the propulsor collapsed at 70 km altitude.
What made the special test was the controlled landing of the propulsor, a critical part called "Super Heavy", which has the size of a 20-storey building. After the decoupling, the rocket went into freefall, but in an impressive demonstration of engineering, it was guided back to the base and "caught" by the structures of the landing tower. This achievement was widely celebrated by SpaceX engineers.
This new landing method is a significant step in the development of fully reusable rockets, one of the main goals of SpaceX. With this, the company intends not only to reduce costs, but also to make possible the transport of heavy loads to Earth's orbit and, in the future, to bring humans to the Moon and even to Mars.
SpaceX's innovation reinforces the company's potential to revolutionize space travel, advancing towards the dream of interplanetary exploration.
